Okay, so who exactly is on the transition team? Are Barrios and the Antonelli brothers really on the team?

Does it really matter where his kids go to school. Maybe he wants to incorporate religion into there academics. Besides I believe the person he beat has children in the same school. With all the issues facing the city this is such a none issue.

Actually, "when it comes to politics" - I do think the taxpayers have plenty to complain about, given the last several years with a bloated illegal budget, incompetent hires, and let's not forget all the new hires during a "hiring freeze." That "bi***" is legitimate one and it doesn's lose its legitimacy if said taxpayer doesn't run for office. Everybody has a right to be concerned after these last two years. Everybody.

I just re-read coffeelover's post and I think they were referring to knocking down Mayor DeMaria. There was a lot of yelling but coffeelover can speak for themselves.

coffeelover..............Take your lecture somewhere else. We're very happy sharing thoughts, ideas, opinions, and information here. If you want to participate, you're more than welcome but I don't think telling us how bad we are is a very good start.

I have not heard Carlo's speech yet. I have channel 16 on now and am waiting to see if they will show it after the city council organizational meetings are over.

Tails,
I hope you are correct, we do need a great number of changes. I, for one, am willing to wait and give him a chance, but it does need to happen fairly quickly.
Tails Posted - 01/08/2008 : 11:06:02 AM
I listened to his speech and I took it as there will be a lot of replacements/changes. As he stated “the days of just showing up to work are over” I think we all know who he was speaking of and not just one person. He needs to get in there and start working to see who’s valuable and who’s not. Believe me, you are going to see changes/replacements but give him time. (not too much I hope, LOL)

Coffeelover1965,

We have plenty to complain about when it comes to the past two years. It's not BS, it's what happened. I believe there are plenty of us who post here that have been involved in politics in this city in one way or another. We all also know about the behind the scenes shenanigans and back room deals. I am glad there is a forum for people to give and learn information on what is wrong and what is right with our city.
massdee Posted - 01/08/2008 : 09:35:25 AM
It is understandable that Carlo was nervous and many of our local politicians are not good orators. I think what most of us are waiting for is who is staying and who is going. I feel that will start to set the tone for what is ahead for the city. A lot of us are still holding our breaths on what is to become of lower Broadway, too. His association with Mr Thibeault is still a great concern to many of us. This is not knocking Carlo, these are real concerns. We all want him to succeed, it impacts all our lives. So many of us were burnt by Hanlon, that we just can't help being skeptical.

Well said Tails!

The only thing I am waiting to see is if Carlo replaces a lot of Hanlon's staff and cuts the unnecessary jobs he created.
"New Begining" to me means start fresh with young, intelligent,
energetic people who want to work to make Everett a better place.
Some of the department heads now are just interested in getting paid and not working for their paychecks.
I wish Carlo all the Best, I think he will do fine, lets all just give him a chance.

I was there last night mainly to see the new high school. I think Carlo did fine. He is not the best speaker but look at Mayor Menino. Carlo was very, very nervous and rightfully so. He will get better and get used to it. It’s a little early to start calling him buffoon and he is no buffoon. He was in higher level classes at with my sister and was very smart in school. I didn’t see his face drop when Father Lando mentioned his children went to St. Anthony’s. He wants what’s best for his children and there is nothing wrong with becoming something of yourself so you can have the means to send your children to private school. It’s a nice church school and there are other city councilors/city workers who send there children there. The new Mayor is not perfect and will make mistakes as everyone does. If he does make a mistake, let’s hope he corrects it unlike the former Mayor. I also want to mention good luck Lorrie Bruno! She looks like a no nonsense gal and that is exactly what the common council needs.

Justme,

I arrived before 7:00 PM. I noticed Vetrano & Pedullo in the second and third rows from the stage on the side that common council filed in on (you may see them on TV then) almost as soon as I sat down. Pedulla came in later (but not late) and sat by himself. I also thought that I saw Henderson at the ceremony but couldn't tell because I was sitting almost directly above him. I did see him in the audience on TV at one of the organizational meetings. Also in the audience, at least at the BOA meeting, was Hanlon's City Solictor (I wish I could spell names). Won't any of these people go away?

A couple of other things from last night that support things that we have been talking/hearing about. Stat Smith confirmed that Carlo had met with the current Speaker of the House but didn't mention what was discussed. Carlo mentioned that Hanlon had chided him for missing a number of transition meetings.

I didn't think that the tape of the ceremony captured the volume of the applause very well; it seemed much louder in person.
justme Posted - 01/08/2008 : 05:31:27 AM
Tetris, Did Sheehan, Pedulla, & Ventrano arrive late or did they go on the taxpayers dime ($5.00)? They were all supposed to be working until 7:30 last night.

he will do a great good or maybe I should say good, first mistake his kids don't go to public school and his face dropped with the priest mention it
coffeelover1965 Posted - 01/07/2008 : 11:35:38 PM
You people have nothing to complain about when it comes to city politics, all you people want to do is B***h about everyone and what is wrong. If you don't like the way things are being done then do something about it. RUN FOR OFFICE!!!!!! if you haven't done so you don't know how hard it is, or how hard it is to hold and appointed position and really work at making changes. And if any of you really knew how the real-world of politics works you would also know that there is a lot more behind the scenes then most people see. It is just like running a big corporation, you need to give a little to get a little. Mayor DeMaria has only been Mayor for a few short hours, lets give him a chance before knocking him down. I was at the event tonight and I saw more people there tonight then I have seen in a long time, including the Ragucci admin, and events like Veterans day and the Tree lighting along with the other events held through-out the year.

I am also trying to give Carlo a little lead way. I want him to do a good job. We all need him to be smart??? His supporters have a lot of trust in him, I hope they are correct.
