On page 4 of today's Independent is an announcement about a Town Meeting, hosted by Mayor DeMaria, on August 27th at 7:00 p.m. at the Schiavo Club. With recent happenings regarding the City Yards, Wood Waste, lower Broadway, crime, taxes, etc., this meeting should provide us with a wealth of information. I sincerely hope that the meeting is well attended. Perhaps this meeting will offer us residents some positive hope for the future of our City and will lead the way to future dialogue between City Government and the residents.

Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MAYOR, DEVELOPER MEET WITH WARD 6 RESIDENTS
On Tuesday January 27th, Mayor Carlo DeMaria Jr. and representatives from Berkeley
Development met with residents of Ward 6 to discuss future development plans. While
negotiations are underway the Mayor is confident with the progress to begin discussions
with local residents.
Development of the 40 acre property is only in the initial stages, the Mayor is hopeful
that once proper permitting is in place, the city will soon see construction along the
Malden River. “This is the biggest development opportunity to hit Everett in a decade,”
stated Mayor DeMaria, “given the economy, we’re hopeful
Initial proposals develop the regions first “Green Technology Park,” an office park that
not only houses environmentally conscious technology firms, the office park itself will be
the first ecologically friendly park. Designs call for buildings that work with the
environment, generating power through solar panels and windmills, and the structures
will have less impact on the environment.
“There is still a lot of work ahead, before we start construction,” stated Mayor DeMaria,
“this is a great first step, and I think the entire city will benefit.”

I have never seen it or given notice. I asked some of my neighbors and no one has heard of this.

I just found this on the city web site. Was anyone aware of this? Or am I just out of the loop because I don't live in Ward 6?

Ward 6 Community Meeting to Discuss Development

Mayor DeMaria will be hosting a community meeting on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 6:00 PM at the first floor auditorium at the Madeline English School on 105 Woodville Street.

The purpose of this meeting is to present area residents with an overview of the proposed development of the former General Electric parcel that is currently owned by Berkeley Development, Inc. Representatives from Berkeley will provide an overview of the plans for the site that include the potential for the introduction of green technology businesses and research and development companies.

Mayor DeMaria encourages residents to attend to learn more about this project and the important economic development opportunities it presents for the community.

Thanks for the update. Sorry I missed it. Sounds like a disappointing turn out.

There were about 20 people in the audience.....4 of them elected officials and 1 reporter (not sure what newspaper). Questions were pretty low key....parking during snow emergency's, updates on DPW equipment purchases, status on the Boys and Girls club etc. Councilman Simonelli had some input on a possible use of the old high school as a consolidated municipal facility. That idea is starting to grow on me....

So, does anybody know what happened at the town meeting tonight? I was running late and it was breaking up as I got there (7:20 PM).

Seems to me we're all hiding behind our keyboards. Otherwise, I'd be posting with my name which is what I do on other boards I frequent.

Why is it we should believe you're going to attend the meeting? We have no way of verifying that unless you choose to stop hiding behind your keyboard?

Massdee has a history here and has proven him/herself to be honest and trustworthy. I wonder if there's anyone here willing to say the same for you? I know I won't.............

As usual Massdee, I agree with you 100%! Just wondering is a very rude and annoying person.

My prayers are with you. I hope your family member has a speedy recovery.............

Nope, no headache! It was really a no brainer. Much like this entire administration.

I'm not going because I get sick of listening to all the lies.

No, I did not! I have been at the hospital every night for almost two weeks. Have I attended other meetings and hearings? Yes, I have.

You hide behind your computer and insult people who do not happen to have the same views as you. I only asked about the meeting because I wanted to be able to watch it. What is wrong with that? I didn't insult anyone. I asked a simple question.
just wondering Posted - 01/08/2009 : 1:26:35 PM
and your ability to hide behind your computer makes me sick as well.....did you take the time to sit in the audience for the state of the city address?
massdee Posted - 01/08/2009 : 12:55:33 PM
I will not be attending because I have a seriously ill family member in the hospital. I will be at the hospital.

You are one of the rudest people out here.

If the Town Meeting had not been rescheduled previously, I would have been in attendance.

Your pompous attitude makes me sick!
