If the election were held tomorrow, who would you vote for?

(Also, I put Hanlon on top because he is the incumbent and everyone else is in alphabetical order.)

Thank goodness, it's Joe and Carlo!

I read that earlier post, I got that part. I should have been more clear, I was wondering about the scrambling to get the budget under the tax levy. Anyone have any details?

You need to read the earlier post that refers to hanlon being set up this summer by Rosa and Larry DeCoste. They say that Rosa talked to Larry the week before the meeting (That's against the law?) and they had the same notes. Definitely trying to imply collusion.

I just read this on The Mirror. Does anyone know what the poster is talking about?

"Set up"? Who do you think you're kidding? John Hanlon set himself up and shot himself in the foot with that bloated budget...which is why he's scrambling now to get it in under the tax levy before the Dept. of Revenue certifies city finances.

Exactly.

Than we get back to the integrity of the person.

It is a game of chance but it is done all the time. The people who do these kind of things, play with high stakes, they have the money to do so. A lot of times, if you have enough money you can buy almost anything.
Lynda Posted - 09/12/2007 : 10:00:42 AM
Yes massdee but how much could one possibly take in contributions from someone or what I should say why would one overly give in contributions on the hopes that they would be the one to be elected. Kind of a crap shot in my eyes.
massdee Posted - 09/12/2007 : 09:53:15 AM
Lynda, you are right, there is a cap on campaign contributions. I believe in our local campaigns it is $500.00. I also know there are ways around this cap, you can make many contributions under many different names. It is not legal and I am not saying any of the candidates have accepted this type of contribution. I'm just saying I know this has been done in the past at all levels of campaigns.
Lynda Posted - 09/12/2007 : 09:46:45 AM
That is why we make sure who we vote in is intelligent enough to figure these kinds of people out. I am pretty sure that there is a cap on contributions to ones campaign. I honestly don't think that Carlo can/will be bought. Thibeault or anyone else can present their ideas to him and/or the boards but everything needs to be approved.
Citizen Kane Posted - 09/11/2007 : 11:33:58 PM
We should care who candidates get campaign contributions from. Money = access. That's the way politics works -- at all levels. So . . . it matters who is "paying" for access to candidates who could become elected officials who could then be in a position to shove things at their constituents that may not be all that palatable.

Who cares who Carlo gets campaign contributions from. I would love to see some proof to prove that Thibeault is planning on a waste dump.

This is just my take on things.........

We just can't afford two more years of the Hanlon Administration. Hanlon's fiscal mismanagement has not only increased our taxes but has caused many of us to greatly cut back on our day to day living. Gee, we have had to find a way to trim our fixed costs, so, maybe it's time for city government to find a way to trim it's fixed costs, not look for loop holes and do away with the cuts that the CC and BOA made to the budget. I think Mayor Hanlon will not get a second term.

Carlo DeMaria, he's a nice guy but seems to be allowing backing from a devious player and that is not good for Everett. He chaired the budget hearings and really didn't show leadership in that role. I lay much of the budget problems squarely on his shoulders, before allowing the vote for a 3% cut across the board he should have made sure that it could legally be done. He was the chair, he allowed the vote and that helped add to the delay and the whole process ended up being a fiasco.

Joe McGonagle, also a nice guy. he remained unusually quiet during the budget process. The past two years he has consistently voted against needless spending. He was the only candidate to vote against both of Mayor Hanlon's budgets. He says he has a plan to move the city forward but has not elaborated on it. I would like to know his plan.

James Keane, I really don't know anything about him. The one issue I can remember from CC meetings is the health insurance issue. He really hasn't been out there campaigning.

So after next weeks primary, the real campaigning will begin. I feel the top runners right now are Hanlon, DeMaria and McGonagle. The primary could end up with any combination of the three. I am sure DeMaria and McGonagle would like the other candidate to be the Mayor. That would make the general election an easy win for either of them. If after the primary, we are down to DeMaria and McGonagle, the general election could turn into a real horse race.

Let's hope the best person to lead our city forward emrges the victor. Everett certainly needs the help.
